Hope is hard to find these days, it can seem like doom and gloom is everywhere and as we move into the winter months, it can feel oppressive.

So how do we find hope in these darker days?

In Psychotherapy we are often working with people who have lost hope and fear for the future. This might resonate with you.

Whilst entering therapy is a very hopeful act, it does take a leap of faith to keep going when times are difficult. A had a client a few years ago who consistently felt hopeless in her struggles with her anxiety and felt huge anger over this.

I often explain to clients that finding hope is a process and so I set her the daily task of asking how she felt every day before she got out of bed and what she felt she could do for herself that day.

We talked about her giving herself micro moments of hope; a nice coffee, walk in the woods, good chat with a friend, rising with the sun 🌞 or some daily meditation.

At the end of the day I asked her to acknowledge to herself what she appreciated about the day, however small. She struggled at first, but over time and by practising ‘hope’, she started to see a chink of light and that light grew. Over time ‘hope’ became her practice.

As the great Viktor Frankl; a holocaust survivor said “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”

If you want to rediscover hope then do get in touch and we can talk about how to reconnect you. 🌈
